SYMS CC could not have asked for a better start to their title aspirations as they comfortably beat Saints in a UDCU Premier league match played at the ICC grounds.
Batting first Saints were given a royal start as Craig Govender and Suhail Khan put on 103 for the opening wicket.
With this solid start, Saints were looking good to post a score in excess of 220 but irresponsible batting coupled with poor shot selection saw them reach 187 for the loss of 9 men.
Yasir Amin claimed 3 wickets for 34 runs in his 6 over spell of medium fast bowling. He was well supported by Zahid Sharif who conceded 37 runs in his six overs but claimed 3 important wickets.
SYMS started their run chase well, losing Mohsin for 12 with the score on 32. Yasir joined Lakman and together they rattled the hapless Saints' bowlers. When Lakman departed for 39, SYMS lost two more wickets quickly, Fakhir (1) and Asif (0).
But the sturdy Yasir stood firm and while wickets fell at regular intervals, he bludgeoned his way to an undefeated 123, losing five cricket balls in the process.
SYMS eventually reached 219 for the loss of 9 wickets, thus earning a total of 5.09 points.(Community Focus)
