The much awaited cricket practice facilities in Umzinto were officially opened this week at Umzintovale and Umzinto St Patrick Primary Schools. Funded by LOTTO through the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union the combined cost of the cricket nets exceeded R80 000.
Chairperson of Umzintovale Primary School Governing Body, Andrew Govender, in thanking the Umzinto and Districts Cricket Union for choosing his school for this facility, paid tribute to the school’s cricket organizers, Mr R Soomeer and Mr M Singh. Govender said the culture of cricket was very evident at the school.
The facility was officially opened by Govender, Principal of the school, Rajen Govender, President of UDCU, Asif Essop and CEO of KZNCU, Jesse Chellan.
At Umzinto Primary St Patricks, the Principal, Perinasen Naicker said he was proud of the long association his school had with UDCU and even prouder that Chloe Tryon, the young South African sensation trained at his school. The CEO of KZNCU, Jesse Chellan pledged to continue supporting the development of cricket in Umzinto and Districts.
The Manager of Amateur Cricket in KwaZulu Natal, Jay Naidoo surprised everyone by announcing that his department would sponsor sets of cricket equipment to both schools. Clubs or schools wishing to use the new facilities must contact the respective Principals. Community Focus
